brilliant workshop!

Yesterday's workshop 'Death of the Idea, Death of Self' was a real success full of dynamic interaction, dedicated learning, great writing and inspiration.

I love designing new workshops and courses and, even better, implementing them to such positive effect.

For many of you who may be wondering what we actually explored in the workshop - take a look at the poster within the photos for the brief but added to that after exploring situations where death of any kind/limitation/block can arise the writers began writing character study, key scene summary, pivotal points in the trajectory, key locations and sample dialogue. They produced a lot of valuable work!

Due to the success of this workshop I will be offering it again elsewhere :)

THEN WE HAVE:

Dreams & Writing Course

Wednesdays 6.30pm to 9pm - 6th to 27th November

This intensive 4 session Creative Writing course looks at how to use the alchemy of our own dream tapestry to weave into our creative writing. We can use our dreams to work on theme, characters and archetypes, dramatic structure and plot. We also look at how Jung dealt with dreams and drama and Dreamtime totems and the dreaming of landscape.

Each week we will look at a different subject whilst continuing to learn various techniques and
methods through exercises and grammar play.

Week 1: Focus is on The Dreamtime and You
Week 2: Focus is on Dream Characters
Week 3: Focus is on Living With A Dream
Week 4: Focus is on a Love Letter to the Landscape

Watch this short intro video
https://youtu.be/LXNOygzpuQE

And though we seem to be sleeping, there is an inner wakefulness that directs the dream, and that
will eventually startle us back to the Truth of who we are.

Reimagined stories

9/6/2019

At the end of my last blog I said: 'Next time I'm going to try out making a Youtube 'reactions' video – in the first case it will be my reaction to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time In Hollywood which I saw in Bristol a few days ago and LOVED his re-imagining of the Sharon Tate case.' Well here it is! youtu.be/74eAQdtF2p0

I love the power of reimagined stories. For instance (spoiler alert) the way that Tarantino handled the terrifying denouement of the Sharon Tate case was quite a stroke of beauty and genius combined. By shifting who the victims of the case were and by keeping Sharon alive it handed over a feeling of peace to her soul, allowing her to live on brightly.

I look at the subject of reimagining (contemporising myth and story) in my 10 hour Advanced Creative Writing Course – available for immediate download here: https://www.freewriterscentre.org/store/p3/Advanced_Creative_Writing_Course.html

The focus of the four sessions (making up the 10 hours) goes like this:

Week 1: Contemporising myth, finding the personal links to given stories; looking at the existing plots and motifs in such stories and mimicking/re-writing them. Also looking at, discussing and using Cavafy's Ithaca.
Week 2: Symbolism and surrealism in writing.
Week 3: Review and critique: how to write non fiction creatively.
Week 4: Write your own Creation Myth. Looking at the 5 given plots of worldwide creation myths
and writing your own birth of a new world.

You can read more about the structure of the course and watch an intro video via the link above and then just press Add to Cart!

I can promise you you will get a lot out of the course and I also encourage you to take a look at the other courses on offer: https://www.freewriterscentre.org/online-courses.html and read testimonials from many clients: https://www.freewriterscentre.org/testimonials.html

Invest in your creativity and make your writing a reality!

How Can I Boost a Facebook Ad?

8/29/2019

That's a question I was musing over recently as I wanted to get more traffic to my website so people could browse my Online Courses www.freewriterscentre.org/online-courses.html and see what Live Events www.freewriterscentre.org/live-courses--events.html were coming up.

I had some trepidation about committing to the Facebook advert www.facebook.com/freewriterscentre/ as it can always be 'a moment' when you hand your bank or Paypal details over – however – Facebook let you stay in control of the spend. You select how much you want the advert to cost per day and for how many days and go for it! I selected £2 per day for 14 days – so no big financial commitment there – but after 7 days my advert has already been seen by over 13000 people.

In terms of who I selected for the audience; for this one I went with Facebook's algorithm choices of 18 – 65 yrs within the UK wide. However on other adverts I will select differently as I have an international audience and due to my many years living in Egypt I still have a strong trusted presence and still have work and clients coming in from there. I also wish to expand my online presence to a global one as the Online Courses can be taken anywhere at anytime.

So, if you want to boost a Facebook Ad or you're thinking of creating content to advertise on Facebook or make any marketing campaign I can verify that the Facebook Business Centre is A-OK and DOES get results.

Go for it!

Next time I'm going to try out making a Youtube www.youtube.com/channel/UCczh7mMCua_FJZP9J_mWZ_Q 'reactions' video – in the first case it will be my reaction to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time In Hollywood which I saw in Bristol a few days ago and LOVED his re-imagining of the Sharon Tate case.

Now let me paste in that fabulous poem:

How Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 43)
Elizabeth Barrett Browning - 1806-1861

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
