The Advanced Creative Writing Course is an intense 4 session course with higher level creative writing exercises and discussion to strengthen description, atmosphere and imagery; we also work on several key topics such as contemporizing myth in writing, symbolism and strengthening editing skills by working on review and critique.

Each week we will look at a different subject whilst continuing to learn various techniques and methods through exercises and grammar play – particularly using and adapting Borges techniques.
Week 1: Contemporising myth, finding the personal links to given stories; looking at the existing plots and motifs in such stories and mimicking/re-writing them. Also looking at, discussing and using Cavafy's Ithaca. Week 2: Symbolism and surrealism in writing. Week 3: Review and critique: how to write non fiction creatively. Week 4: Write your own Creation Myth. Looking at the 5 given plots of worldwide creation myths and writing your own birth of a new world. Duration: 10 hr Course given as 4 sessions estimated to each take 2 ó hours (there are also extra add on assignments not factored in the time count) |
Exercise lengths:
Each class session is made up of many small to medium sized writing exercises. The add on assignments are between 250 words to 1000 words maximum.
